ICC announces interim COVID-19 regulations for matches

The International Cricket Council(ICC) has announced interim COVID-19 regulations that are to be followed in the matches in the coming days.

The ICC Chief Executives’ Committee approved recommendations made by the cricket committee led by Anil Kumble on conducting matches during the pandemic.

The recommendations include a ban on saliva usage, non-neutral umpires, COVID-19 replacements, additional DRS, and additional logos.

Ban on applying saliva to the ball: Players are not allowed to use saliva on the ball. If used, the umpires might be lenient initially. However, teams would be warned as the game progresses and a penalty of five runs would be imposed. Apart from that, if saliva was used, the ball has to be cleaned before using.

Non-neutral umpires:   The ICC would temporarily appoint locally based match officials from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Officials and the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Officials, to avoid travel of umpires from abroad.

Additional DRS reviews:  The number of unsuccessful appeals per innings for each team is increased from two to three for Tests and one to two for the white-ball formats.

Additional logo allowed: ICC have approved relaxations on size of logos to be printed on the uniforms. A logo, not exceeding 32 square inches in size, may be placed on the chest of the Test match shirt and sweater in addition to the three other logos allowed as per regulations.
