It’s a well-deserved opportunity: Coach Ponting about Pant’s new role

Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting took to social media to talk about Rishabh Pant’s appointment as stand-in captain for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

The former Australian skipper wrote: “Unfortunate that Shreyas will miss the tournament, but looking forward to seeing @RishabhPant17
grab his opportunity. It’s well deserved for his recent performances and he’s coming in with a lot of confidence. I’m convinced captaincy will make him an even better player.” (sic)

Pant has been named as the skipper for the upcoming season after their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer’s unavailability. The latter will not play this edition due to injury.

Iyer picked up an injury during England’s tour of India. He will be undergoing surgery soon and will be out for weeks.
