2018 was the beginning of great things for Bangladesh. They had Anju Jain as their coach who undoubtedly, was one of the best cricketers in the world during her time. She took care of the team well and made them free their arms.
After beating India and Pakistan a few days ago, Bangladesh suddenly was a great competitor against India, the defending champions. India’s record in Asia Cup was impeccable. They never lost a match here before this tournament where Bangladesh defeated them. It did shake the team a bit.
India batted first and added 112 in their 20 overs. It was captain Kaur’s 56 off 42. Also, the match witnessed the first obstructing the field decision, thanks to Anuja Patil.
Chasing the modest total, Bangladesh needed a partnership and they rightly got a few, thanks to their top order. With all the four top-order batters getting a double-figure score, Bangladesh stood toe-to-toe with the target. However, Poonam Yadav brought India back to the match by picking four wickets and by giving away just nine runs. In the end, Bangladesh needed two runs off the final delivery. Kaur went for a fullish-length. A slog from Alam helped the team to deny the seventh straight title for India and to grab their fifth win in six matches.
This match really did turn the fortunes of Bangladesh cricket. However, they have a long way to go now, despite the slump at the recently concluded World Cup, Bangladesh will certainly be back.
