I grew up in a society that prefers “looks”. Even the movies I watched when I was young, the female characters were all about “glamour” and nothing else. They hardly used to get scenes and their main objective is to romance the hero and nothing else.
I remember hearing a lot of songs that described or made me believe that looks are everything. As I reached a point, I realized how wrong we are. I realized what defined beauty. I realized how hard it is to be on the receiving side of bullying. Hey, we still have comedy and scenes that glorify racism, body shaming and other things which we shouldn’t be doing, at least after years. Now, do get me started about the movies that talks about how women should behave and should be. Even today I came across a movie that is literally male chauvinistic and I almost threw my mobile away to save it from my vomit. Yes, even today, we have gross movies.
While this world is full of non-sense, we do have a few good content-oriented movies coming out to be on top and I’m sure that Chhapaak will be one such movie.
Deepika Padukone’s choices of movies have turned out well most of the times and that’s why she is one of the best actors in our generation but Chhappaak is different. It needs a good person and an actor. Good person because this movie is emotionally demanding and it is not easy to get it done unless you really understand and care. Deepika cares. Deepika can act. She sure is going to live up to the expectations.
The make up she has done is tricky. She could’ve been easily misunderstood like how Hrithik’s dark skin made controversy in ‘Super 30’. Things could have been worse but it is not. Even if Deepika does millions of movies, this one will be special.
The best part is that Deepika not only believed that she can take up this role and do justice, but she also wanted to put money on it. This shows the confidence of the actor.
From the trailer, all I can say is that Deepika did not act but has lived as the character. This movie is going to be special, will be an eye-opener, will get Deepika multiple awards.
I’m sure, Deepika would be emotional and would shed a few tears when she goes on to the stage to collect the award. Because movies like this are rare and important. What makes it more special is that it is from one of the top stars of our cinema. Deepika Padukone is having a great year not only through movies but the choice of movies and the choice to act and voice out when it is needed.
