FM Nirmala Sitaraman announced that the Government is taking proactive steps to make use of the available resources to take education to the places that have no access to the internet.
“Online education has been taken up in a big way. SWAYAM PRABHA DTH channels to support and reach those who do not have access to the internet. Provision made for the telecast of Live interactive sessions,” FM Sitharaman said.
The Swayam Prabha is HRD ministry’s free-to-air education channels, which is a group of 32 DTH channels that provide educational content. The channels teach on topics like arts, science, commerce, performing arts, social sciences and humanities subjects, engineering, technology, medicine, and agriculture.
All of the 32 Swayam Prabha channels offer users around six hours of pre-recorded content on four different subjects daily. It also allows students to clear their doubts by calling on a dedicated helpline.
FM also announced PM eVidya programme for multi-mode access to digital/online education will be announced shortly. This will consist of DIKSHA, a one-nation, one-digital platform facility for school education (one nation, one digital platform). One earmarked TV channel for each class (one class, one channel) will also be a part of this.
