A few months ago, inspiring story of 85 years old Kamalathal made headlines for selling idli for Re 1 per piece for years now.
Fondly called as ‘Idli Paati’, Kamalathal is still continuing to sell idlies for just 1 rupee despite the increase in cost due to coronavirus pandemic.
From her house-cum-outlet in Vadivelampalayam near Alandurai here, she continues to sell idlis, mainly to people from other places, who have not option to return home or to cook themselves.
A lot of people have come forward to donate to her and she is making sure to feed as many people she can.
On Saturday, DMK chief MK Stalin spoke to her on phone and made sure to arrange the necessary groceries.
BJP ministers as well as ADMK ministers also came forward to help her. The vice chancellor of Bharathiyar University donated groceries to Kamalathal.
While feeding more than 300 people, she also encourages people to follow social distancing.
