Breaking: Pervez Musharraf handed death sentence in Treason Case

In a first, a three-member bench of the special court of Pakistan, headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth, on Tuesday handed former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf death sentence in the treason case against him, The Dawn reported.

The treason case against Pervez Musharraf was initiated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for imposing a state of emergency in the country in November 2007. The case was pending since 2013.

Pervez Musharraf, 76, left for Dubai in 2016 to “seek medical treatment” and has not returned since. In March, he was admitted to a hospital in Dubai after suffering from an ailment.

The former Pakistan President was then declared an absconder as he failed to appear in court despite repeated summons and the court issued a directive to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to arrest him.
