The Best FIFA Awards: Messi, Klopp, Rapinoe bag top honours

Lionel Messi overcame the challenge from Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk to win his record sixth FIFA Men’s Player award.

This is the first time since 2015, he won the award. In both 2016 and 2017 he came second to Cristiano Ronaldo, whereas, in 2018, he missed out.

Messi won it in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who led the Reds to Champions League glory this year, beat Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino to win the FIFA Men’s Coach award.

Coming to the Women’s Football, the World Cup Golden Boot winner Megan Rapinoe bagged the top honour.
