2012 Delhi rape case: 7 years after Jyoti died, 4 rapists to be hanged on Jan 22, 7 am

A Delhi court on Tuesday, announced that all the four convicts in 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder case will be hanged at 7 am in Tihar Jail on 22nd January.

Akshay Thakur Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma were found guilty in 2012 gang-rape, torture and killing of a young medical student in Delhi.

The court has given fourteen days for the convicts to exercise their legal remedies.

The convicts’ lawyer AP Singh said, “We will file a curative petition in Supreme Court,” ANI reported.

“My daughter has got justice. Execution of the 4 convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system”, said Asha Devi, Jyoti’s Mother.

I have been running from pillar to post for one year,” she said and had wept at the time before the judge, who consoled her saying he was bound by the law.

Jyoti’s father, Badrinath Singh said he was happy with the court’s decision, adding that the verdict will “instil fear in people who commit such crimes.”
