Thiem ousts Nadal in four, sets up a clash with Zverev

In what you call an incredible night, Dominic Thiem bettered his head to head record against Rafa Nadal. The fifth-seeded went on to defeat Nadal in four tough sets involving three tie-breakers.

Rafa Nadal, who wasn’t looking great, blame the climate as well, had a break and was serving for the set in the first, however, Thiem pulled some miracle shots to break Nadal back and took the match to the tie-breaker which he eventually won.

The second set also went to the tie-breaker and the result was the same. In the third, Nadal managed to survive and broke Thiem to take the set 6-4. He then had the lead in the fourth but Thiem proved too good for the World Number one and took the set to the tie-breaker which he won comfortably.

While Thiem was great, Nadal wasn’t as good as he always used to be, you wouldn’t normally see him miss multiple forehands and there were misjudgements with the shot as well.

On the other hand, it is certainly a good match for Thiem who kept producing some wonderful winners which were jawdroppingly good.

He will meet another next-generation player, Zverev, who defeated Wawrinka in four sets. Zverev lost the first set 6-1 but come back stronger to take the next in literally a whisker.
