India qualifies for 2021 World Cup after ICC allocates points for cancelled series

India v Bangladesh

ICC on Wednesday announced that the points will be shared for the series that are cancelled due to COVID19.

That means, India along with hosts New Zealand, Australia, England and South Africa are 5 teams who have sealed a direct berth for the quadrennial 50-over World Cup.

The ICC made the announcement after its “Technical Committee (TC) has decided that teams will share points in all three series in the ICC Women’s Championship that did not take place during the competition window.”

“Australia (37 points), England (29), South Africa (25) and now India (23) have qualified by virtue of being the top four. Pakistan (19), New Zealand (17), West Indies (13) and Sri Lanka (5) complete the table,” an ICC release said.

The series between India-Pakistan that was scheduled in 2019 couldn’t happen because of the Government.

ICC now made sure that the points for the series are shared between both the teams.

This is an unfortunate situation for Pakistan.
