London Cup: Surrey lifts the trophy, win by 4 wickets

Women’s Cricket finally returned after the COVID19 pandemic with the London Cup at the Kia Oval.

The best part of the match was that it was the relay. The match was streamed on the Facebook page and of course, it wasn’t a disappointment.

The match began with both the sides taking the knee in support Black Lives Matter movement and to stand against racism.

Batting first, Middlesex got to 108 for 7. They could have got more but some good bowling from Surrey kept them quiet.

Dattani was the first wicket to fall. Minutes later, Carr followed her and the scorecard read 5 for 2. Griffith and Miles steadied the innings with a 47-run partnership. After Griffth’s dismissal for 30, the team lost some quick wickets.

In the end, it was Gole’s unbeaten 28 that took the team to 108.

Chasing 109, young Capsey and White gave the team a good start. Cranestone had 17 but it didn’t seem enough. Especially, after the fall of Jones and Gordon. Southby had 14 runs to her name and added a good partnership with Chathli. The match entered the crucial stage as Southby got out in the final over with the team needing five runs to win.

In the end, Chathli completed the tough task and got the team home to their maiden London Cup.
