In Semi Final 1, Columbo Kings was requested to bat first by Galle Gladiators. Chandimal and Udara didn’t provided the best of starts. English import D Bell-Drummond started playing aggressive style of cricket. Skip Matthews and Dre Russ threw away their Wickets. With Drummond stranded on one end, Wickets kept falling in other end. Kings ended up with tricky 150 runs on board . D Bell-Drummond compiled a fine knock of 70. Thushara, D Lakshan & Sandakan shared 7 Wickets between them.
Galle’s star batsman Gunathilaka failed to deliver on big occasion. Ahsan Ali soon departed the same way like his partner. B Rajapaksha & Azam Khan had starts but didn’t last long. Shehan Jayasuriya & D Lakshan kept the scoreboard ticking. Jayasuriya got out on 22. D Lakshan remained gritty and helped his team to book a place in the Finals.
Columbo Kings suffered major blows during the clash. Andre Russell slipped at the dressing room and didn’t take the field in the second half. Their star performer Laurie Evans suffered a injury just before the game. Mathews couldn’t complete his four overs due to niggle. As they say, Life is a mystery so does the game of cricket.
