T20 WC, 7th match: All round India goes past Bangladesh with ease

After winning against Australia, India went on to defeat Bangladesh to make it 2 in 2 in the group stages.

After being put on to bat first, Smriti-less India managed to score 142 in their 20 overs, highest score so far in this tournament.

India promoted Taniya Bhatia to open the innings, however, she got out for just two. Shafali Verma at one end, did what she normally does, cleared the boundaries with ease.

She had four sixes and two fours for her 39 off just 17. Jemimah and Deepti then nudged singles and doubles to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Jemimah had 34 runs and Ghosh playing her first match in this world Cup, got 14.

Deepti, at 11, got into a funny incident with Veda where both the players found themselves at one end. While trying to run for the second run, Deepti slipped but Veda continued the running. Deepti then turned back, dived to get herself in at the bowler’s end. However, Veda grounded the bat first and Deepti had to walk back.

Veda then showed a glimpse of what she is capable of with a few boundaries, especially, the lofted cover drive. It is a good sign for India.

She helped India to cross 140+.

Bangladesh then lost Shamima Sultana early but found their way back with the help of Murshida Sultan. She scored 30.

After losing wickets in between, Bangladesh let the game slip from the hands with dot balls.

However, Nigar Sultana played a brilliant knock for her 35 off 26 and kept Bangladesh in hunt.

After her wicket, Bangladesh had tiny partnership but it wasn’t enough as India sealed a 18-run win over their neighbors.
