Words not enough, I will just give him a long hug and say thank you: KL Rahul on MS Dhoni’s impact, retirement

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni had called it a day from his international career and is certainly one of the emotional retirements we have ever seen.

India had many youngsters debuting under Dhoni’s captaincy and KL Rahul was one of them.

The newly appointed Kings XI Punjab skipper during his recent interview said that he grew up idolizing the former Indian captain.

“It was quite an emotional moment for the whole country and for world cricket. We have all grown up wanting to be MS Dhoni. Especially for someone like me who comes from a small town, he was our hero. We always told our families to look it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can always go and try and achieve your dreams,” Rahul said in a video released by the Indian Premier League.

“I am sure I won’t have enough words to tell him. I will just give him a long hug and say thank you and probably ask him to go easy on Kings XI this time.”

“The calmness he (Dhoni) has and the way he has got the best out of each player, everybody would try to learn from him,” Rahul added.

KL Rahul will be captaining KXIP after the franchise had released Ravi Ashwin. The latter will be playing for Delhi Capitals this season.

IPL will begin from September 19 and will go on till November 10th.
