Intense COVID19 can be controlled, Dharavi is an example: WHO’s Tedros

Two officials from WHO are currently on their way to China to learn about the origin of COVID19. They will be meeting the Chinese officials to discuss the same.

During the press meet, World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that in the last six weeks coronavirus cases have more than doubled worldwide.

“There are many examples from around the world that have shown that even if the outbreak is very intense, it can still be brought back under control,” the WHO chief said, adding, “and some of these examples are Italy, Spain and South Korea, and even in Dharavi – a densely packed area in the megacity of Mumbai – a strong focus on community engagement and the basics of testing, tracing, isolating and treating all those that are sick is key to breaking the chains of transmission and suppressing the virus.”

He also added that this meeting with Chinese officials will be helpful for WHO for the ground work and will help them to identify how the disease jumped from animals to humans.

He also added that it is important for every single nation to stay together in this war against the virus.

Meanwhile, Dr Mike Ryan, head of WHO’s emergencies programme, said it was unlikely that the new coronavirus would be eliminated.

He added that it will be unlikely that the virus would be completely eliminated. However, with care, we shall prevent the second spike all over the world.
