BCCI to go ahead with IPL this year despite uncertainty over T20 World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has decided to go ahead with the Indian Premier League(IPL) late this year, despite the International Cricket Council(ICC) waiting to decide on the future of the T20 World Cup that was scheduled to happen this September.

In a letter that was sent to the state associations by the BCCI, the board has stated that the board will shortly decide on the future course of action as per reports by TOI.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly wrote that the board is working on all possible options to ensure that they can stage the IPL this year, even if it means playing the tournament in empty stadiums. “The fans, franchisees, players, broadcasters, sponsors and all other stakeholders are keenly looking forward to the possibility of IPL being hosted this year,” he wrote.

“Recently a lot of players, both from India and other countries, participating in IPL have also shown their keenness on being a part of this year’s IPL. We are optimistic, and the BCCI will shortly decide on the future course of action on this,” he added.

According to the TOI report, the standard operating procedure for the resumption of cricket in India is prepared and to be finalised by the office-bearers.

Regarding the possible modifications that could be made for the upcoming domestic season, Ganguly wrote, “We are working on various formats and options in our endeavour to ensure that various domestic tournaments are held, they stay competitive and participation is feasible. The BCCI will come up with more details on this front over the next couple of weeks.”
