Foot-operated flushes: Railways customizes coaches for post-COVID19 travel

Indian railways is ready to take the possible measures to contain the COVID19 spread once the lockdown gets over.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took to social media to talk about the two trains that were tested recently.

“Future Ready Railway: Designed to fight Coronavirus, Railways creates first Post COVID Coach’ with handsfree amenities, copper-coated handrails & latches, plasma air purification, Titanium di-oxide coating.”
“For COVID-Free passenger journey!,” he said in a tweet.

The two trains that were tested- one is AC and the other is non-AC.

In the booklet that is being circulated about the train, says that the hand contact necessary is being reduced. There are copper-coated handrails and latches to minimize the virus, a Titanium di-oxide coating as well.

The toilets will have handsfree washbasin as well. Foot-operated taps to be introduced and everything inside will be coated with Titanium di-oxide.

The coaches will also have the provision of plasma air equipment in the AC duct that will sterilise the coaches using ionised air to make it COVID-19 free.
The “nanostructured titanium dioxide” coating is another special feature.

¨This is an eco-friendly water-based coating that kills viruses, bacteria, mould, and fungal growth and most importantly enhances indoor air quality. It is non-toxic and approved by food testing laboratory of the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) It is considered to be a safe substance, and is harmless for humans,¨ the booklet said.

There is also a thermal camera to monitor the heat level of the passengers.
