Mirabai Chanu creates new world record

Mirabai Chanu has created a new world record in the Clean and Jerk and breached the 200-mark for the first time in international event on Saturday, ended up winning Bronze medal in the Asian Weightlifting Championships at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

This is the first time she has lifted a total of 205 kg. Her previous best was 203kg, which she achieved in the National championships in Kolkata last year.

She created a new world record in Clean and Jerk with a lift of 119 kg, bettering the previous world record of 118 kg.

She is the 2017 world champion in the 48kg and a Commonwealth Games gold and silver-medallist.

By competing in this tournament, she has virtually qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
