Sophy Thomas becomes Kerala HC’s 1st woman registrar general

Kerala is known for it’s many firsts, especially, when it comes to women. Now, Sophy Thomas, the principal district and sessions judge of Thrissur, has become the first woman to be appointed the registrar-general of the Kerala High Court. She replaces Karunakaran Nair Haripal, who was sworn in additional judge recently.

She comes from Agrarian family in Vazhakulam. She practiced law in the state judicial service before becoming a district judge.

She said in an interview that she took law incidentally but now destiny took her to a different path. She added that the human side of this profession is the main reason she took up law.
