Thought that I would be there at no.4 in WC 2019: Ajinkya Rahane

Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane in his recent interaction told that he had a good record in the ODI cricket before being dropped.

Rahane who is the vice-captain in the Tests played his last ODI in February 2018 and he recorded the scores of 79, 61, 53, 70, 55 and 5 in his last six ODIs.

Rahane added that he was looking forward to play in the World Cup 2019 at the number four spot.

“I was actually thinking that I would be there at the World Cup batting at no.4,” Rahane said in a virtual interaction with the media on Thursday.

He said that his aim is to make a come back in the white-ball format.

“But it’s gone now, you can’t think too much about it. My aim is to come back to the ODI team and do well in white-ball cricket which I am pretty confident about.

“I was playing county cricket when the World Cup was happening. As a player, everyone wants to be part of the World Cup team, especially when you know you have worked really hard and your past record is good,” he added.

“I am hopeful I will make a comeback in white-ball cricket,” he said. “If you see my record before getting dropped in ODIs, it was really good actually. People talk about strike rates and averages but before getting dropped my record in 50-over cricket was pretty good,” he said.

Rahane who captained the Rajasthan Royals for years will represent the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season.

Delhi is one of the teams to begin their practice ahead of the IPL.

The IPL will start from September 19th and will be played till November 10th.
