Vinesh Phogat becomes 1st Indian wrestler to qualify for 2020 Olympics

Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian wrestler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after holding off world number one Sarah Ann Hildebrandt 8-2 in her second repechage round.

After losing the second round in the 53 kg to Mayu Mukaida, Vinesh easily dispatched Ukraine’s Yuliia Khavaldzhy Blahinya 5-0 in the first repechage round.

Vinesh has been doing well with gold medals at Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. She now is a game away from winning a medal at the World Championships.

She will take on Maria Prevolaraki for the medal.
