Northern Superchargers continued their brilliance in The Hundred as they went on to defeat Trent Rockets on Monday. The latter are yet to open their account, and despite having one of the strongest squads here, the team is struggling.
As Superchargers batted first, Jemimah Rodrigues began from where she had left off in the last contest and added a good partnership with the captain Winfield Hill.
The skipper then got out for 29-ball 33. The team was going slow and they needed some power-hitting. Enter Laura Kimmince.
She took on the bowlers right from ball one. Sarah Glenn was on the receiving side, something that doesn’t happen very often. The England spinner went for five fours in an over. Laura Kimmince added a couple more and ended the innings with 31 from 12 deliveries.
After her dismissal, the team fell apart. Jemimah Rodrigues got out for 60, and then the lower order followed. The team made 149 from their 100 deliveries. Sammy-Jo Johnson was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
In return, Northern Superchargers were too good that Trent Rockets couldn’t chase down the total and fell 27 runs short. In the middle, Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt almost got the team home as they had a brilliant partnership. Sciver made 33 runs while Brunt stood unbeaten at 43.
