Bahrain launches BCF T20 Women’s League with 8 teams

Bahrain Cricket Federation (BCF) has launched the T20 league for Women in order to involve more girls in cricket.

On the Bahrain National Day Celebration, the first edition of the BCF women’s T20 league was launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa at the Isa Town National Stadium.

BCF’s next major goal is to create a pathway for the girls to participate in International, T20I matches. As a first step, BCF has launched the T20 league with eight teams.

Eight teams competing in the event: BCF Red, BCF White, High Performance Cricket Academy (HPCA) Queens, HPCA Superstar, HPCA Warriors, Star Lankans, Bahrain Spartans and Bahrain Pearls.

The matches will be played on the weekend for the next three months. The league has received support from Bahrain Financing Company.

The Board is also working to launch GCC Women’s T20 Cup and is in talks with cricket boards of other Gulf Countries.

Apart from these, The Board has already planned to send out coaches to different schools to help out kids with the game. The coaching along with kits will be free of cost.

The first match of the tournament was held on the same day with HPCA Queens taking on BCF Red.

After being asked to bat first, BCF Red made 100 for 7 in their 20 overs with Hema Raghavendar top-scoring with 18 runs.

Chasing the same, HPCA Queens reached the target within 12 overs. Hema Raghavendar was awarded the player of the match for her all-round performance.
