ENG v IRE, 1st ODI: England win by 6 wickets

After the entertaining Test series, England were back with the white-ball cricket and this time they took on Ireland.

It was the first ODI and the visitors batted first. David Willey began well by dismantling the top-order and he was well-supported by Saqib Mahmood.

Willey ended up picking five wickets and Ireland’s rescue act was performed by Campher who made 59 and McBrine who made 40. Ireland ended up scoring 172.

It should be an easy target for the visitors, one would have thought. However, England began poorly by losing four wickets for 78 runs. There was some pressure and the match was hanging in the balance at that time. Sam Billings took the responsibility and smashed unbeaten 67. He had the support of Morgan who made 36. England got to the target with ease.
