World Number 1 Iga Swiatek produced a flawless display to go past No: 18 seed Coco Gauff to win her second Roland Garros singles crown on Saturday.
A couple of years ago, Iga Swiatek made heads turn by winning the Roland Garros title as an unseeded teenager. This time, she gets to her title as the World Number one and with a jaw-dropping 35th consecutive match wins. With this, she ties with Venus Williams for the most consecutive matches winning streak in this century.
Having turned 21 recently, Swiatek is the 4th youngest woman to lift the title more than once. She is also just the 10th woman to win multiple Roland Garros titles in the Open Era.
She is also the first player since Justine Henin to win six titles in a row.
Swiatek, who has never lost against Gauff, began well with 4-0 in the first set. It took just over 30 minutes for Swiatek to take the 1st set.
However, Gauff bounced back well to break Swiatek early in the second but the World no:1 won the next five games in a row.
Gauff then did well on her serve to stay in the match after being 15-30.
When Swiatek had two championship points, an error from Gauff gave Swiatek her second Roland Garros title.
