Oh Manapenne Review

Remakes are always tricky especially, these days, as most of the films are available globally with subtitles. To remake a film like Pelli Choopulu, it needs more as it is one of the most watched as well as loved films from Telugu Industry.

One can easily say that Kaarthikk Sundar has done a fine job in making a faithful remake. The film has the same storyline but he has managed to change a few scenes to make it work with Tamil audience.

While the story is well-known, the cast- Priya Bhavanishankar (as Shruthi) and Harish Kalyan (as Karthik) adds freshness to the film. They have done a fine job when it comes to the acting. In fact, they carry the whole film on their shoulders.

The film keeps us engaged, entertains throughout and the humour is one of the reasons. Anbuthasan makes us laugh and also makes sure that there is never a dull moment. Along with the humour, the emotional scenes are impactful too. Especially, those scenes involving Priya Bhavanishankar and her father.

Harish Kalyan has played the role of Karthik, a jobless engineer with no aim in life,  with ease. Karthik has no interest in engineering and loves to cook. He is reluctant to take it forward as a career.

His family finds an alliance for him and they meet Shruthi, played by Priya Bhavanishankar. Karthik and Shruthi reveals their life stories including their luck in love when they were asked to talk alone.

Shruthi, on the other hand, loves to study and she is against this marriage as she wants to study more.

Later, the family realizes that they are at wrong house. Karthik and Shruthi then become business partners and opens a food truck. The truck also plays a role in the film and both characters are emotionally attached to the same as well.

The story follows the same Pelli Choopulu script but there are moments that makes the film fresh and enjoyable. Most importantly, the director did not remake the film shot by shot and had managed to show off his creative side with the direction. The cast selection deserves special mention as well.

The cinematography, editing and music adds more to the film. The music especially is breezy and works well with the mood of the film. The film’s major aim is to entertain the audience and the director has done that very well.

Even if you had watched Pelli Choopulu, Oh Manapenne works well because of the direction, strong performances and the minor changes made to the film. This is one of the must-watch films this weekend.
