Major breakthrough: Steroid Dexamethasone found to save 1 in 3 COVDI19 patients

A low-cost steroid Dexamethasone found to be effective in 1 in 3 patients in preventing the deaths, a new study found.

The study and the trail was conducted in The UK and is called the RECOVERY.

The scientists suggested to make the steroid available easily and they also suggested that it should become a standard care in treating COVID19 patients.

“This is a result that shows that if patients who have COVID-19 and are on ventilators or are on oxygen are given dexamethasone, it will save lives, and it will do so at a remarkably low cost,” said Martin Landray, an Oxford University professor who is co-leading the trial.

His co-lead Peter Horby said that it is a major breakthrough and is so far the only drug that has shown to reduce mortality.
