Women’s Cricket had a topsy turvy year. The world cup final clocked a outstanding crowd of 86,174 at MCG which showcased the enormous growth of women’s cricket. On the other hand, One of the top most cricketing nation India didn’t played a single international match since that epic encounter against Australia. How it started?

Australia clinched the tri-series against England & India which served as the perfect platform for the T20 world cup. New Zealand hosted Proteas for a 3 match ODI & T20 Series. After nearly 5 months, women’s international cricket was returned to action at Austria on August 12. Austria hosted Germany for a 5 match T20 Series. Germany made a historic whitewash 5-0 over their neighbours. In full member nations, England hosted Windies women for a 5 match series and they drubbed them 5-0 comprehensively. Australia hosted White ferns for a limited overs tour in which the home team equalled a record 21 successive ODI victories. They also won the T20 Series. Other than these teams, no other team played a international game since the Pandemic.

Is domestic seasons affected?

Domestic Competitions have found their way to get going against all odds. England played Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy. They even increased the central contracts count which ensures the importance of the game in England. New Zealand women played a handful matches in Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. Pakistan hosted a national Triangular T20 cricket championship. Ireland organized Super 50 Series to keep their players intact. Australia & India hosted WBBL & Women’s T20 Challenge which saw an incredible rise in viewership. India is yet to plan about bith domestic & international cricket. England and Australia has postponed their tours regarding Covid-19 Pandemic.

What to expect in 2021?

The Hundred going to take place in 2021. A women’s IPL also on the cards. It shows the development of women’s cricket and garnered enough attention to make people entertaining. With postponement of World Cup to 2022 & T20 WC in 2023, Assoiciate and other ICC nations will be eagerly waiting to get into the international events. One thing is sure, Women’s cricket will keep growing forever.
