‘I had a good life, keep this for the younger’: 90 YO dies after refusing ventilator

A 90-year-old coronairus patient has died in Belgium after selflessly refusing a ventilator and instructing doctors to ‘keep this for the younger’ patients.

Suzanne Hoylaerts from Binkom, near Lubbeek, was hospitalised on March 20 when her condition rapidly deteriorated after contracting COVID-19.

She was admitted for loss of appetite and shortness in breath. She then was tested positive for Coronavirus.

However, she refused ventilators asking the doctors to save it for younger patients.

She reportedly told doctors at the hospital: ‘I don’t want to use artificial respiration. Save it for younger patients. I already had a good life.’

She then passed away two days later.

Her daughter Judith told to a Dutch newspaper, ‘I can’t say goodbye to her, and I don’t even have a chance to attend her funeral.’
