Actor James Michael Tyler has passed away on Monday. He was 59.
The actor was known for his role as Gunter, the manager of Central Perk, in the sitcom Friends.
He was one of the most beloved characters in the show.
The actor had stage 4 prostate cancer, which was diagnosed in 2018. He announced the same during an interview with NBC earlier this year.
The official handle of Friends wrote, “Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of James Michael Tyler, a beloved actor and integral part of our FRIENDS family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and fans. ❤️☕️
“The world knew him as Gunther … but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband,’ his family said in a statement.
“Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures. If you met him once you made a friend for life.”
The actor also appeared in various hit shows including The Scrubs. In the recent Friends reunion, He made an appearance via video.
