IND vs ENG, 1st Test- England take 1-0 lead

India, after heroics in Australia, went down to England in the first Test at Chennai, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

England’s captain Joe Root dragged the team to 578 in the 1st innings, scored an excellent double ton. He had 218 runs and was supported by Sibley who had 87 and then Stokes who made a quick fire 82.

India had most of their main men back after injuries and it was Ashwin and Bumrah who took 3 wickets each in the first innings.

In return, England bowlers were too good that India had managed only 337. Pujara had an unlucky dismissal at 73 while Pant got out for 91.

Sundar and Ashwin batted well in the lower order and took team to a decent total. Sundar, who had a memorable Test debut in Australia carried his form here as well and at his home venue, he made 85*.

For England, Bess led the attack with four wickets to his name.

In return, Ashwin rattled the batting order of England with ease, took them down to 178. He had six wickets in the innings.

India then tried to chase down a mammoth total. Leach and Anderson led the bowling attack for the visitors as India went down by 227 runs.

Gill made a half-century while Kohli had 72. Other than that, there wasn’t enough contribution as the team went down 227 runs.

Leach had four wickets and Anderson had three wickets in the 2nd innings to help England to take 1-0 lead.

The Second Test will begin at this same venue and the match will witness 50 per cent crowd.
