June 27, 1996: Kirsty Flavell became the first woman to score a double ton in Tests.

On this day in 1996, Kirsty Flavell scored the first double ton in women’s Test.

NZ toured to England for 3 ODIs and 3 Tests. NZ won all 3 ODIs and in the first Test, they had England fighting back.

Hosts made 414 in the 1st innings, thanks to Barbara Daniels and Kathryn Leng for their tons. Julie Harris and Catherine Campbell had 4 wickets each for New Zealand.

In reply, Debbie Hockley and Shelley Fruin added 91 runs for 1st wicket. Then Kirsty Flavell entered the scene, batted through day 3 and after close to 550 minutes later, she brought her double ton.

She got out for 204, bowled to Leng in the Day 4 and the match was ended on a draw.

While she was the 1st to reach the double ton, she still holds the record for most nineties in women’s Tests, two.
