TN under-reports Covid19 death in Chennai

In a shocking revelation it has been reported that TN state government has significantly under-reported COVID-19 deaths in Chennai.

According to a report in TOI, the Directorate of Public Health (DPH) found out that the Greater Chennai Corporation has recorded 236 deaths more than the state registry.

As on Tuesday morning, the state had reported 224 deaths, whereas the total deaths recorded by GCC are 440. This statistics take the death rate in the state to 1.7 % from 0.7 %.

The Health minister and Heath secretary of the state have said that there is no intention of hiding the COVID-19 deaths and it could be a lag in data sharing. However, the officials at GCC have said that the state registry might not be updated due to shortage of staffs. The DPH has asked the GCC to send a daily report of deaths in a prescribed format from here on.
