Chris Woakes and Mark Wood return to the England squad for the upcoming Test at the Oval. Woakes, who had to miss the first three-Test due to injury, is back into the squad now. The all-rounder had recently featured in the Vitality Blast match for the Bears.
On the other hand, Wood is also fit for the selection. The pacer missed the Headingley Test due to injury and now, he is back into the squad. The 15-man squad also features Craig Overton and Ollie Robinson along with Sam Curran.
The team will miss Jos Buttler as the keeper will be away for the birth of his second kid. Jonny Bairstow will be taking the gloves this time. Sam Billings has been added as a backup keeper for the game.
Talking about Buttler’s absence, England head coach Silverwood sent his best wishes for the keeper.
“We would like to wish Jos and his family all the very best for the impending birth of their second child. Unfortunately, he will miss this Test, and we’ll then see if he returns for the final Test at Emirates Old Trafford.
“Jonny Bairstow will take over wicket-keeping duties, which he is relishing. As we all know, he has the skills to seamlessly take over from Jos and the ability to score crucial runs in the middle-order if called upon.”
Saqib Mahmood, who couldn’t find a place in the squad, will be returning to his county side and will play the upcoming county match.
