WBBL 07, Match 29: Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers

Match 29 of WBBL07 was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers at Western Australia Cricket Association Ground (WACA) in Perth on Wednesday (November 3). Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to field first.

Tayla Vlaeminck, in the very 1st over, dismissed Alyssa Healy. Ashleigh Gardner, who was out of form, joined Ellyse Perry in the middle and showed a glimpse of form right from ball one. She smashed two fours in the 4th over off Belinda Vakarewa as well.

By the end of six overs, Sixers were at 40 for 1 and by 16th over, Gardner completed her 9th WBBL half-century, her first this season, by hitting a four off Ruth Johnston. However, in the same over, she was caught by Vakarewa at 51 off 49 which included 8 fours. She added 100 runs along with the skipper. The latter got out for 47 off 52 which included 4 fours and 1 six. With the help of Nicole Bolton’s cameo, the Sixers were able to score 141 for 4 in 20 overs.

Sydney Sixers then looked in complete control as they took two wickets, Johnston and Mignon du Preez off Lauren Cheatle and Maitlan Brown respectively.

Rachel Priest and Nicola Carey tried to build up the partnership but Radha Yadav picked up Carey’s wicket in the 10th over followed by Rachel Priest’s wicket in the very next over.

Bolton, with her beautiful spells, took back-to-back wickets of Naomi Stalenberg and Richa Ghosh. Molly Strano tried to get some runs but could not convert it into big. As a result, Sixers successfully managed to restrict Hurricanes at 110 for 7 in 20 overs, winning the match by 31 runs. Gardner was named as a player of the match.

WBBL 07, Match 30: Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers

Match 30 was played between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers at WACA in Perth on Wednesday (November 3). Perth Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat first.

Destructive Perth Scorchers openers- Sophie Devine and Mooney-smashed Renegades all over the ground. By the end of the powerplay, Scorchers was at 63 for 0. Unquestionably, this was the best powerplay of the season. Renegades’ strategy of using only spinners in the powerplay did not work this time as this pair proved too good to them.

The captain Sophie Molineux ran out of options, even gave one over to Jemimah Rodrigues but she went for runs as well. In the end, Courtney Webb broke the 165run partnership by getting Devine’s wicket at 72 off 49 which included 8 fours and 2 sixes in the 17th over.

Harmanpreet Kaur picked Heather Graham in the next over. In the 20th over, Mooney smashed a four and got to her 2nd hundred in WBBL. A sensational batting performance from Mooney and Devine helped Scorchers reach 194 for 2 in 20 overs.

A poor start for Renegades as Lilly Mills sent openers Jess Dooley and Jemimah Rodrigues back to the pavilion in the 3rd over itself. Courtney Webb and Harmanpreet Kaur started off their innings with a Six and a four respectively. However, in the 10th over, Kaur was trapped in front of the stumps while trying to sweep at 13 off 17.

Mills came back into the attack in the 15th over and took another two wickets, Jess Duffin and Courtney Webb at 23 off 22 and 46 off 34 respectively. Taneale Peschel picked Carly Leeson in the 16th over.

The skipper Molineux then smashed back-to-back fours in the 18th over off Heather Graham but the damage was already done as 66 was needed from 12 balls at that time. Molineux, in the last over, smashed 4 fours and stayed not out at 31 off 18.

A stunning all-round performance from Perth Scorchers helped to break the winning streak of Melbourne Renegades. The Scorchers won the match by 40 runs. Beth Mooney was named as the player of the match.
