Smriti Mandhana walked in to bat when she was just a few runs away from her first Test ton. Ellyse Perry, on the other hand, was still searching for a better length. she delivers a full toss. Smriti was quick to the shot and gave the ball straight into the hands of Beth Mooney.
The umpires go upstairs to check if the catch was clearly taken or not. Unfortunately, they didn’t go that far as Perry ended up with a no-ball. It was frustrating if you are a Perry fan but exactly the opposite if you are a Mandhana fan.
A few overs later, Mandhana reached her century with a boundary. She had a quiet celebration too. However, none of these were the best moment of the day.
It was Punam Raut’s decision to walk off the field. The middle-order batter had a beautiful delivery from Sophie Molineux. She had edged it but the umpire didn’t hear it and gave not-out. Nobody knows what went inside Punam Raut’s mind as she decided to walk away. It would’ve been not out considering no DRS. She made 36. Before that, Mandhana was the second wicket to go.
After a fine knock of 127, Mandhana was caught at mid-off. Gardner’s plan worked well as Mandhana fell for the trap.
Mithali Raj and debutant Yastika Bhatia began to build a tiny partnership. Bhatia scored 19 from 40 before edging one off Perry. It went to Beth Mooney once again. The latter held on to the catch this time to dismiss the debutant.
Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma had a miscommunication while running and the former had to walk back after scoring 30. She slipped while running and couldn’t turn in time. A direct hit from Sutherland didn’t help her too.
Deepti Sharma, with loads of work to do, joined hands with Taniya Bhatia who batted for 13 deliveries without scoring.
When one thought that Australia got back into the game, the rain played the spoilsport as the play got suspended for the day. India were 276 for 5 at the end of the second day.
