Varisu Review: Vijay’s Familiar Family Emotional Entertainer Works

Varisu is Vijay’s new film directed by Vamshi Paidipally that also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Prakash Raj, Srikanth, Jayasudha and others.

Varisu Review:

The film is a complete mixture of old commercial family entertainers. We have seen it all already but what makes it work is the way Vamshi Paidipally handled it and of course, actor Vijay.

The director certainly knew what he was dealing with and delivered a film which is enjoyable to the masses. It is not like the film is completely new and all. We have seen this plot many times. It is a clash between the brothers to take over the family business.

Rajendran (Sarath Kumar) pits his sons against each other to ensure that he is picking the right successor. While Jai (Srikanth) and Ajay (Shaam) have an eye on the throne, Vijay (Vijay) stays away, but in the end, Rajendran picks Vijay as his successor. This makes everything worse in the family.

How Vijay beats the odds and proves that he is worthy of the throne is the story.

The first half takes a bit to settle down, and there are several emotional sequences. This might not work for everyone.

Yogi Babu provides comic relief, but it might not fill up the high expectations we have of him.

While everyone else has done their part very well. It is Vijay who completely steals the show.

It feels like he was enjoying more in this film more, and there are plenty of moments which will make us fall in love with the actor again. The self-reference and the humour remind us of the old Vijay from Minsara Kanna times. In a way, it is refreshing to have him back this way.

Interestingly, most whistles came for self-references and humour than the punchlines. It felt like we all missed the old Vijay.

Music composer Thaman knows how to make us all dance, and his music certainly elevates the scenes and makes them enjoyable.

Cinematographer Karthik has done well to make things colourful, and it goes well with the film.

Other than that, it is a simple family emotional drama which we are used to. However, what stands out is the actor Vijay and how the director has handled the mass hero. There are several whistle-worthy moments, and it deserves a theatrical watch for sure. On the whole, it is good to see him back, doing the humorous style.
