Gujarat Titans lift their 1st title in their inaugural edition as they defeated Rajasthan Royals in the final of IPL 2022.
Opting to bat first, Rajasthan struggled earlier with Gujarat bowlers keeping it tight right from ball one. Jaiswal made 16-ball 22 while Buttler, the orange cap holder, went for 35-ball 39.
After the dismissal of the openers, the middle order couldn’t connect much and managed only 130 in their 20 overs. For Gujarat, Yash Dayal provided the first breakthrough with the wicket of Jaiswal.
However, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets from just four overs. He dismissed the important wickets of Samson, Buttler and Hetmyer. Certainly, those wickets turned the course of the game.
Pandya’s captaincy needs some special mention as well. The all-rounder was spot on with his fielding set up and also, he did well with his bowling calls.
Be it using Rashid Khan early or bringing himself ahead of Sai Kishore, Pandya called it right.
In reply, Boult began well and created an opportunity to dismiss Shubman Gill but Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t hold on to the catch. As a result, Gill went on to take the team home.
After losing Saha and Wade early, Pandya and Gill made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking. Since there was no pressure on the score, the team had it easier. Pandya was then dismissed for 34 with a brilliant delivery from Chahal which gave the latter his purple cap.
In the end, David Miller smashed 32 runs from 19 deliveries; Gill made an unbeaten 45 from 43 deliveries and helped the team to take the title.
